GuluWalk Charity Fundraiser – Raising Money for Children in Uganda

Given the path that we are walking, and the direction it leads, we at Pixel Dreams are blessed to deserve opportunities to give back to the global community. After all, this path we’re on is shared by humanity. With such opportunity comes responsibility, so we created www.Uclub.ca over a year ago in efforts to fundraise for Athletes for Africa through GuluWalks online, a worldwide movement advocating peace and equality. Athletes for Africa is a registered charity and proceeds donated here aid the children of northern Uganda. GuluWalk has raised over 1 million dollars since its inception, and this past year on October 25, 2008, more than 30,000 people, in 75 cities in 16 different countries took to the streets to urge the world to unite in support of peace.

We started our journey off with a small step. We began with ourselves; some of us even agreeing to donate 10% of our freelance income to the cause. But as with all endeavours close to our hearts we did not stop there! We created posters, T-shirts and began inviting friends and family to donate (either their time or money) to support our fundraising efforts. Within the first few months we’ve collected nearly 2 thousand dollars and are still actively spreading the buzz throughout our networks.

Anyone who feels compelled to contribute to their global community, whether it is in offering their time, money or simply a prayer, is a part of UClub! Our goal of raising 100 thousand dollars in donations to GuluWalk.com is still within our sights. Only now we’ve gone from small steps to break-neck speeds. The money donated will be distributed to an array of different programs in Northern Uganda. GuluWalk is committed to being accountable for all donations and to ensuring that the money is making a significant difference to the Acholi children of Uganda.

It starts with each of us taking that step: spread awareness, re-post a link to www.UClub.ca for your friends, donate what you can spare whether it’s from your skill-set or your chequebook, and walk with us in our efforts towards a common goal: peace and opportunity for our neighbours in Uganda.
