Doll Culture Photography Series.
We often converse on the topics of human obsessions, consumption, ideology, and of course, sex. Our fancy for controversial themes is not the only reason why we are inspired to explore the cultural obsession with sex dolls. Dolls reveal deep insights into the cultures they come from, particularly the psyche of their creators and consumers. In ancient Greek mythology, Pygmalion was so obsessed with the idea perfection that he set out to create his perfect woman from a block of marble. By the time he finished his creation, Pygmalion had madly fallen in love with it and no real woman could compare. Thousands of years later, we are still doing the exact same thing. Have you seen the sex dolls available on the market today? These dolls are increasingly perfected in ways that make some of us think we might become obsolete soon as lovers. Programmable lovers, that future is coming close.
