It was 2005, just a little over five years since I dissolved my partnership in my first design company: Critical Mass Media. At the time (1999 - 19 years of age), I had convinced myself that I'd never go back to the world of art and copy. But alas, I couldn't deny the heart God gave me, which kept beating the song of art and expression.

Life's Struggles
In 2004 my father passed away and I was forced to quit university to help the family. By 2005, I suffered many business failures, was fired from my call centre job, worked at Pizza Pizza as a delivery boy, and survived off the kindness of my ex-girlfriend. Most people thought I had gone bonkers spending day and night working on a cartoon. At times, I did too.

Tom Thompson & Kani Mandi
After four gruelling months of re-learning Flash animation & ActionScript, audio editing, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, and of course, the art of drawing comics, Tom Thompson and Kani Mandi was born. Their simple mission: Tell the tale of Khalid's life situation in hopes that someone or some company would recognize my ambition and talents.

Hibernation, Part 2.
Once my online resume, The-K-Report.com was complete, I started writing my cover letter. After days of writers block, I realized that writing a cover letter in itself was a bad idea. There was a general theme of absurdity that I had to follow. To the disappointment of friends and family, I fell into another hibernation period working hard on a comic strip in replacement to a cover letter. Again, many people around me, including myself at times, thought I had gone crazy. Within a few weeks, the adventures of Tom Thompson was finished, printed and sent out to potential employers.

The Result: By late 2009, Pixel Dreams Inc was fully operational, working with some of the best people in the industry, on clients we love and admire.
